FAQ

  • Q. What are the requirements to use Sure Cuts A Lot?

    System Requirements:

    • Windows XP / Vista / 7 / 8 / 10
    • Your cutter must be connected to a computer via a USB cable (type A/B male which is a standard printer cable)
    • A cartridge must be installed in your Cricut for it to cut (any cartridge will do)

    Cutter Requirements:

    • Cricut Personal - firmware v1.34
    • Cricut Expression (original) - firmware v2.34 or v2.43
    • Cricut Create - firmware v1.54
    • Cricut Cake - firmware v1.54 or v2.3
    • Craft ROBO type machines (including the Silhouette SD & Wishblade)
  • Q. What is "firmware" and do I need to update my Cricut?

Firmware is the built-in software that runs on your cutter.

To check your Cricut's firmware version, turn it on and the version will be displayed on the screen when it starts.

If your Cricut's firmware is not the correct version (see question above), you will need to update it. See the next question on how to do this.

  • Q. How do I update my Cricut's firmware?

If you already have Cricut Design Studio installed, uninstall it first. Then download and install the file below, which is the correct version of Cricut Design Studio you need. MAKE SURE you install the version from this link, as different versions contain different firmware updates:

    1. Download this version of Cricut Design Studio
    2. Install Cricut Design Studio
    3. Open Cricut Design Studio
    4. In the main window, click "Continue using Trial Mode"
    5. From the main menu, choose HELP > Update Cricut Firmware
    6. Follow the instructions to perform the update. You can check that your update was successful by turning off your Cricut and then back on, and the version will be displayed on the Cricut screen.

If your Cricut didn't update to a compatible version, repeat the update process by going to HELP > Update Cricut Firmware. Some customers have to do this several times before the update is applied. After each update attempt, be sure to turn your Cricut off and back on, and restart your computer to refresh your settings.

  • Q. Will using Sure Cuts A Lot void my Cricut warranty?

No. Sure Cuts A Lot is installed on your computer, not your Cricut. Your Cricut is not modified in any way.

  • Q. Will Sure Cuts A Lot work with Windows 8 or 10?

Yes. For Windows 8 users, you will need to run it in XP compatibility mode - see below on how to do this.

TROUBLESHOOTING

  • Q. Sure Cuts A Lot keeps freezing on me! How do I fix it?

If you are using Windows 8, you need to run Sure Cuts A Lot in XP Compatibility mode. To do this:

    1. Right-click the "Sure Cuts A Lot.exe" file and choose Properties from the context menu that appears. The default location is "C:\Program Files\Craft Edge\Sure Cuts A Lot" or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Craft Edge\Sure Cuts A Lot"
    2. Select the Compatibility tab and enable "Run this program in compatibility mode for:", and choose "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)"

    3. Click OK to save the changes.
  • Q. Sure Cuts A Lot says 'checking mat' and stops cutting.

    Perform these steps in order:

    1. Make sure your Cricut's firmware is a compatible version and update if necessary. See questions 1 & 2 at the top.
    2. Try running Sure Cuts A Lot in XP Compatibility Mode - see question above.
    3. Install the USB driver. Within Sure Cuts A Lot, select Help > Install Driver. Turn your Cricut off and back on, and restart your computer for the driver to load.
    4. Make sure your USB cable from your Cricut is connected directly to a port on your PC and not a USB hub or USB port on another device such as your monitor or keyboard. If it is connected directly, try a different USB cable and a different USB port on your PC. Different USB ports have different power ratings and non-compliant USB cables will not work.
    5. Make sure you have a Cricut cartridge installed. Any cartridge will work. Cricut does a self check and will not cut without one.
    6. Reboot your computer. Turn your Cricut off and back on. Launch Sure Cuts A Lot and try to make a cut.
    7. After performing these steps, if Sure Cuts A Lot continues to freeze and become unusable, please contact us.
